A Nice Little Break From Reality.
For the last few days I was on vacation with Katie in Upstate New York. We rented a small cabin about an hour south of the Canadian border. The cabin itself was tucked away in the woods. The drive up I started to experience some symptoms which I'm not used to. A fear overcame me that if I so much as looked away from the road for even a moment, I may crash. I know its not good to take your eyes off the road as it is... but each time i looked over at Katie... or wanted to observe the mountains in the distance... a shudder came down my spine. It wasn't fun... and once I was done driving I was happy to be out of the car. We mostly went hiking for our few days up there. We went and visited Lake Champlain which little known fact... was a great lake for about 18 days in the 90s. The scenery was nice and we ended up having a fire for a couple of nights. Katie wanted to sleep outside one night... but the scurry of small animals... and what appeared to be the flashing lights of a camera kept me from calming down. To her reluctance... she agreed to go inside... my heart finally calmed down after about 20 minutes and I was able to sleep. I drove slow on the county roads... and was passed about 7 times. It didn't really bother me. I've found my need for speed has diminished over the years. I'm not sure why. Probably because I don't want speeding tickets and my insurance to go through the roof. Katie cooked while we were up there... we had burgers two out of the three nights. She's always been a good cook. Today we drove home... and most of the ride was rainy due to the hurricane down south. The outer bands were reaching all the way to our cabin. But we did manage to stop in Troy NY to try out a unique iced cream sundae.
When we got home we ate dinner... then from there I called Verizon to finally get a replacement router. my mom stopped by to drop of the keys... then I did laundry. Life returns to normal...
I know what my goals are. They are more in focus now. A small house in the mountains of New Hampshire.. 5 years from now. Someplace nice to work from now until then... and a decent job to move into once we get there and for things to remain good from now until then.
